CBS: Health Benefits of Coffee
(CBS) June 23, 2010 - A great article was published over the summer
concerning the "often overlooked" benefits of coffee to your general
health. While there is a general consensus on the idea that too much
caffeine is bad for your health, the positives of drinking coffee
deserve mentioning.
CBS health correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton spoke with the CBS
"Early Show" on health benefits of coffee which include decreased
risk of heart disease and some cancers. She specifically mentioned
coffee reduces" ...risk of oral and neck cancers..."and that coffee
contains extremely healthy antioxidants which have positive effects
on both men and women.
For men, drinking coffee daily can reduce the chances of prostate
cancer while women can have a reduced risk of uterine cancer. Dr.
Ashton also explained that daily coffee drinking can lower the risk
of type 2 diabetes in both men and women. Of course, she tempered
her coffee drinking benefits with a known fact that excessive
caffeine can have negative side effects.

Livestrong Foundation: Fruit Extract as a Natural Appetite Suppressant
(Livestrong) Oct. 27, 2010 - According to LiveStrong.com, sponsored by the
Lance Armstrong Livestrong Foundation, that promotes healthy
lifestyles an amazing "wonder fruit" has been discovered that
decreases appetite naturally. Garcinia Cambogia extract, which is a hydroxycitric acid that is very similar to citric acid found in
oranges, has been proven in labs to reduce appetite while still
promoting healthy living. This extract is found in many of South
Beach Java's gourmet coffee blends and has been put there as a
natural way to curb appetite and promote weight loss.
A University of Maryland Medical Center study showed hydroxycitric
acid stops carbohydrates from becoming fat. It is also a
proven appetite suppressant similar to grapefruit extract only much
stronger. When this extract is put into fortified coffee along with
Arabica beans, caffeine and other vitamins, it becomes a great
weight loss tool that along with exercise can help you achieve a
healthier lifestyle.
The article also states that there is still testing that needs to be
done to prove the complete effectiveness of this extract but it is
known to be healthy and natural supplement.

Mayo Clinic: Does Caffeine Increase Weight Loss?
(Mayo Clinic) Oct. 15, 2010 -
Mayo Clinic, a web-based health and science information site,
recently featured an article on caffeine as a weight loss
supplement. Nutritionist Katherine Zeratsky outlined appetite
suppression, calorie burning and more as weight loss benefits of
caffeine. Caffeine is a known accelerant, but most people don't know
that caffeine can stimulate thermogenesis, which is the same heat
production process as exercise. This stimulation is good for fat
burning, increasing your metabolic rate and digestion. Caffeine is
also an appetite suppressant, as it provides a similar type of
energy a person would get from consuming calories.
All of this information is derived from studies in their preliminary
stages. Katherine Zeratsky, does think that there is value to
caffeine as a weight loss supplement and appetite suppressant but
it's important to note that this should coincide with exercise and a
healthy diet. Excessive caffeine intake can lead to some problems
like anxiety and insomnia, but a modest amount weekly or daily can
actually be good for your weight loss and health.
South Beach Java provides fortified coffee for weight loss, focus
enhancement, immunity boosting and higher energy. But fortified
coffee should also be used with exercise and healthy eating when
incorporated into any diet for maximum health benefits.
